With the first day of school quickly approaching on Mon., Aug. 23, many public schools are looking to recruit local talent. Recently, the Wake County Public School System approved incentive bonuses to attract applicants.

- Chapel Hill-based Blue Empire LLC purchased the Sears in northeast Raleigh for $5.85 million. Located at 5959 Triangle Town Blvd., this spot features 2 floors and ~144,000 sqft of space. The property was sold by TR Raleigh NC LLC, an affiliate of Transformco. (Triangle Business Journal)
- Chicago-based RREEF Management bought the Park at Crossroads Apartments — located at 6000 Scarlet Sky Ln. in Cary near the Centrum at Crossroads — for $92 million. The sale price increased by 161% from $35.2 million in 2012, due to increased demand for multi-family living. 🏡 (Triangle Business Journal)
- California-based Alexandria Real Estate Equities purchased 100 acres in RTP for $91 million. The site, entitled Genesis at Research Triangle Park, is located at 3029 E. Cornwallis Rd. + features lab and office space. The seller, Charlotte-based Keith Corporation, originally bought the land for $7.6 million. 💰(Triangle Business Journal)

- In lieu of growing security lines at RDU, airport officials are working to obtain $25 billion for improvement projects. Recently, $21 million was approved + they plan to expand Terminal 2 by adding 2 more checkpoint lanes. ✈️ (WRAL)

- The Triangle area ranked No. 14 for tech talent in a new report by commercial real estate services firm, CBRE. The cities were ranked according to the ability to recruit new talent. The study notes a 20.2% increase in technology roles from 2015 to 2020. 💻 (TechWire)

- Triangle Business Journal unveiled its 2021 class of CEO & C-Suite Awards winners. Winners were chosen for their extraordinary contributions to the community + cover a variety of industries — including David Spitz of ChannelAdvisor, Scott Levitan of Research Triangle Foundation, and Anna Lynch of Lynch Mykins.
Outdoors
- According to NASA, the best meteor shower of the year is this week — called the Perseids. Starting Wed., Aug. 11-Fri., Aug. 13, individuals may witness 100 meteors an hour + bright fireballs of light. NASA suggests you find a dark spot and lay out for a few hours. Did you know it takes ~30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark? (The News & Observer)
Coronavirus
- The number of Triangle businesses requiring a vaccination card for indoor dining is increasing. The News & Observer has compiled a list of spots including Raleigh's Players Retreat + Durham’s Kingfisher. ProTip: Other restaurants may be implementing restrictions as well, so be sure to check individual requirements before you go.
- Wake County Government employees will be required to be fully vaccinated by Wed., Sept. 15 or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. Employees who are fully vaccinated or get fully vaccinated by Wed., Sept. 15 will receive $250 + 2 days of bonus leave. Learn more here.
- Wake County is now offering free at-home COVID-19 tests, provided by Labcorp. Individuals can order the PCR kits online, receive it the next day + mail it back using a prepaid shipping envelope. Results take 1-2 days. (WRAL)
